Antonio Banderas Code-Named 'Zorro' by Secret Service Agents During Obama's L.A. Visit
Multimillionaire Mitt Romney is again being accused of being out of touch with middle-class America after Saturday night's televised GOP debate in Iowa.our editor recommendsHollywood Stays Away as Mitt Romney Raises More Than $1 Million in Beverly Hills Rick Perry Presents Top 10 List on 'Late Show' in Wake of Debate 'Oops' (Video)Mitt Romney's 2007 'Meet the Press' Appearance Provides Fodder for Newt Gingrich Campaign (Video)Related Topics•Politics After rival Rick Perry claimed Romney had supported national healthcare reform in a passage in his book, No Apology, that had been removed in the paperback edition, Romney fired back. He brought in healthcare reform to Massachusetts as governor -- similar to President Barack Obama's national healthcare proposal -- but he denies ever saying his healthcare plan in one state could work nationwide. "Rick, I'll tell you what: $10,000 bucks? Ten thousand bet?" Romney said, extending his hand to shake on the bet. Perry paused before responding, "I'm not in the betting business, but I will show you the book." The bet became a huge topic online almost instantly. Within an hour, the Twitter hashtag #what10Kbuys, which had been started by the Democratic National Committee, was trending across the globe, according to ABC News. Meanwhile, pundits weighed in after the debate, and opted to focus more on Romney's audacity to wager such a nominal figure as opposed to the content of the bet itself. "For someone to go and throw around a $10,000 bet, just goes to show even more that he's not the same level as the people of Iowa or the country," Alice Stewart, a spokeswoman for another candidate, Michele Bachmann, told ABC. Eric Fehrnstrom, Romney's press spokesman, said the former Massachusetts governor was only trying to make a point, not make a serious bet. "I've made bets with friends and family for one million," Fehrnstrom said. He added that Romney only made the bet to prove that Perry wouldn't take it, saying, "This guy was wrong. It was a phony allegation." After Romney attempted to make the wager, his offhanded remark went viral online, with "#what10kbuys" trending on Twitter. "That's the language of Wall Street and not the language of Main Street Iowa," Robert Haus, co-chairman for Perry's Iowa campaign, told reporters after the ABC debate. "I don't know anybody that carries that kind of money around with them," said Iowa house majority leader Linda Upmeyer (Newt Gingrich's Iowa campaign chairwoman). "When I make a bet with somebody, it's usually for the five dollars I have in my hand and we lay it down and we bet." Bob Vander Plaats, a conservative leader from Sioux City, Iowa, who has previously criticized Romney's candidacy, echoed that sentiment to the Des Moines Register. "No matter what number he came up with, it just played into his image that he's in a realm that most Iowans can't relate to," he said. Another rival candidate, Jon Huntsman, who did not participate in the Iowa debate Saturday, created the website 10kbet.com after the debate. The site, complete with articles, videos and tweets, seeks to explain why "Mitt Romney Owes Rick Perry $10,000." Former Obama White House aide Bill Burton, spokesman for PrioritiesUSA, a group supporting Obama's re-election, also chimed in, via Twitter. "Not a lot of 99%'ers are out there making $10,000 bets," he wrote. Burton also told Reuters via e-mail: "It is predictable that Mitt Romney will slip up and let folks in on who he is from time to time. Corporations are people, joking about being unemployed and now this. Mitt Romney has no clue what pain the American middle class is feeling right now." Romney has failed to connect with some voters, partly because of his enormous net worth. While fundraising for the 2008 campaign, Romney reportedly spent $42 million of his own money. Actress' Suit Puts Concentrate on Age as Job Barrier
La (AP) Millions of-dollar suit by an actress who claims her job prospects were broken when she was outed online like a 40-year-old has run smack into the usual understanding: If Sandra Bullock, 47, and Helen Mirren, 66, are becoming steady work, prejudice against older stars surely should have disappeared.Film stars Meryl Streep, Halle Berry and Glenn Close will also be people from the 40-plus and employed club. On Television, a lot of the "Desperate Average women" female leads are approaching 50, while Emmy Award-winning Julianna Margulies of "The Great Wife" is 44.But industry associates and unions say star energy obscures the ageism gap between high-profile entertainers and dealing stiffs a distinctive facet of Hollywood's division from the haves and also have-nots."There's a inclination for people to think about the stars we have seen constantly and whose names we all know,Inch stated Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the Screen Stars Guild's deputy national executive director and general counsel."However the huge most of figures on television and film are described by people we do not know and who're battling to earn a living being an actor," he stated.Want good examples? Think about searching a movie's closing credits to recognize an actress inside a minor role, or even the somewhat familiar face that appears because the guest victim or killer on the TV crime drama.Older stars face more employing hurdles than their male alternatives, based on employment statistics from SAG and also the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, along with the connection with individuals around the front lines.Women over 40 constitute 24.3 % from the U.S. population, this years census found. In contrast, union casting analysis show stars over 4 decades old get 12.five percent of roles for television and film. Males of this age will also be in regards to a quarter from the population but nearly equal their ranks in casting.(Television does not prosper by women overall, who're 50.8 percent from the U.S. population but they are observed in merely a quarter of roles, based on union statistics.)The image isn't any more attractive if this involves earnings within the youth-obsessed industry. This Year, for instance, stars age range 41 to 50 employed in SAG-covered film and television projects gained an overall total $58 million in comparison towards the $160 million compensated to stars for the reason that age bracket. The guild is heartened through the high-profile older stars who're finding work, especially on television, and Crabtree-Ireland stated, "Hopefully that this is the start of a trend its our people, but our data does not reveal that.InchAmongst the groundbreakers are Close, 64, of "Damages" and also the approaching theatrical release "Albert Nobbs" Kyra Sedgwick, 46, of "The Closer" and Marg Helgenberger, 52, "CSI: Crime Scene Analysis."That's progress, considering the fact that celebrity Bette Davis was 42 when she performed a maturing actress around the edge of irrelevance in "About Eve" (1950) and was 56 when she starred being an seniors "spinster" climbing down into madness in "Hush ... Hush, Sweet Charlotte now" (1964).Compare that to Dana Delaney and her role like a wise, sexy medical examiner in "Body of Proof." Delaney turns 56 next March."It is a miracle I am working,Inch stated Salma Hayek, 45, whose credits range from the recently launched "Puss in Boots" and "Frida" (2002), that she received an Oscar nomination. "They explained you may never work because I've the accent. ... They explained you are not likely to work after 35 or 30, and I have never been more busy during my existence." But non-marquee entertainers visit a different script. The suit filed in October by an actress recognized only as "Jane Doe" suggests that "lesser-known forty-year-old stars aren't sought after within the entertainment business."How her age grew to become public is in the centre from the suit. She states it had been online Movie Database Professional website IMDbPro, the subscription-based counterpart towards the popular and free IMDb, that are subsidiaries of Amazon . com.com. IMDbPro's webpage boasts that "Industry Associates Use Professional," that provides 80,000 representation entries for stars, company directors, and producers. Individuals entries generally include, among credits and contacts, birth dates."It's be a really large tool within our business. But it is be a hindrance towards the working actor," stated agent Marilyn Szatmary, someone in SMS Talent in La. There is a growing reliance upon utilizing an actor's chronological age to evaluate them for any role, rather than assessing age they are able to "play" on the watch's screen, she stated."You receive on the telephone having a casting director and also you attempt to pitch someone for any role, say a 30-year-old character, and also the actor legitimately can enjoy 30," Szatmary stated. "However the casting director continues IMDBPro and states, 'No, this states they are 35.' Plus they will not give them a call.InchWhat Crabtree-Ireland calls "the IMDb problem" has triggered a ton of complaints from guild people within the last four to five years. Youthful stars could be affected too, he stated, remembering a 22-year-old who, when her age was revealed online, abruptly stopped getting juvenile roles she'd routinely performed.Industry changes, such as the rise of reality TV series and reduced film production, have reduced the accessible work with stars making employing more competitive. Within this crowded area, a guest role on the TV series for example "Grey's Anatomy" can draw 2,000 distribution, Szatmary stated. This is exactly why individuals accountable for filling roles want to use all tools available, casting company directors say. Stars may tell you they are more youthful and could publish misleading photos online, stated casting veteran Sheila Manning. ("The photos they're using are, shall we are saying, Photoshopped," she stated.)When they look suitable for the part they will be considered no matter how old they are, Manning stated."It's better now. There's more work with them (veteran entertainers), most likely since the people employing options are also growing older,Inch Manning stated. "I do not think we cast by age, I believe we cast by looks. Take a look at Susan Sarandon, who's 65. She looks spectacular."Isabella Hoffman, 52, whose credits include "Princess Journals 2" and TV's "Homicide: Existence in the pub" and "Criminal Minds," tries to avert being typecast by age and, like many working stars in Hollywood, looks more youthful than her years. But she sees the issue inside a bigger, more intractable context."Our belief system in the usa is 'youth rules.' That is what people need to see. We have based lots of our choices by what we sell, what we should put on ... on an infinitely more youthful group."Requested in the event that causes it to be especially tough for entertainers, she replies. "I'm not sure. You might consider the switch side." She paused, after which added having a rueful laugh, "I can not consider the switch side."SAG and IMDb reps happen to be meeting on the nearly two-year period to go over shedding age range in the site, Crabtree-Ireland stated, using the guild supplying a proposal he rejected to detail. AFTRA along with other guilds take part in your time and effort that to date continues to be fruitless. The "Jane Doe" suit filed in U.S. District Court in Dallas, where Amazon . com relies, alleges that IMDB used the actress' charge card along with other private information to find out and publish her date of birth in breach of privacy and consumer privileges. The actress, whose suit does not describe her career and notes that she's from Texas as well as Asian ethnicity, stated she was keeping her identity unknown to prevent "even more damage and economic injuries."(Her attorney, who did not react to demands for comment, stated inside a filing that his client continues to be exposed to ridicule and retaliation. Several stars contacted to go over the problem around the record rejected, stating its sensitivity, along with a declaration filed now by Crabtree-Ireland contended when Jane Doe's title becomes known she could face industry blacklisting like a complainer.)Amazon . com includes a "lengthy-standing practice of not leaving comments on lawsuit matters," company speaker Mary Osako stated within an e-mail that incorporated a November motion for dismissal from the suit. There's been no ruling yet around the motion, that is based simply around the actress' anonymity. The motion also alleges that they is trying to trick the general public and potential companies by hiding her age and attempted to create IMDb "perpetuate" a falsehood about this.Droop expects to help keep pressing the organization on posting age range and it has not eliminated any options, Crabtree-Ireland stated, including "lawsuit or legislative efforts. However, we still hope that IMDb will acknowledge the injury and take voluntary action.""There is a moral obligation to think about the impact," he stated. "IMDb covers a great deal of those who are not and not is going to be newsworthy, the journeymen who keep your industry running. There should never be an account on these questions major newspaper or magazine. But information is being released in ways that actually undermines their career."Regardless of the specter old prejudice, Salma Hayek demands that "you can't lie regarding your age."But, she added, "I actually do think people should stop being obsessed about age the stars since it removes a few of the miracle. You need to have the ability to transform into anything."Copyright 2011 Connected Press. All privileges reserved. These components might not be released, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Popular Cinema's Dude-Sex Drought
I think it’s the best thing ever, but others’ mileage seems to vary — convincingly so, regarding films like The Hangover Part II and The Change-Up: “It’s ridiculous; it’s like, one minute the skeevy dude in the married dude’s body is like ‘I’M GOING TO BANG YOUR WIFE’ and then he’s overcome by feelings and can’t and the uptight dude in the player-dude’s body is like ‘I’M GOING TO BANG THIS HOT WONDERFUL CHICK’ and then he just can’t because of also his feelings. So… somehow, no one ends up having sex.” Hmm. May I suggest Shame? [The Awl]

Scarlet be a huge hit, as well as the Belgian court asked for the eu Court of Justice for advice. Its ruling concludes that, to have the ability to take away the problem files, the Internet service provider will have to monitor its customers' electronic communication. This kind of general monitoring obligation is incompatible with European law. Box Office Preview: 'The Muppets' Likely to Win Thanksgiving Family Feud
Disney's The Muppets appear to be anything but washed up.our editor recommends'The Muppets': White House Hosting Screening for Military Families (Exclusive)Martin Scorsese Calls Filming 'Hugo' in 3D 'An Enjoyable Headache'The Muppets: Film ReviewHugo: Film ReviewArthur Christmas: Film Review PHOTOS: 'The Muppets' Premiere Red Carpet Arrivals According to box office tracking, the family film holds a safe lead over the other two new Thanksgiving films, Sony and Aardman's Arthur Christmas and Paramount's Hugo, directed by Martin Scorsese. All three films open nationwide on Wednesday, hoping to feast on Thanksgiving holiday traffic. The Muppets, starring Jason Segel and Amy Adams opposite the iconic puppets, is headed for a $40 million or better five day debut. Holdover The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn--Part 1 could win the Thanksgiving box office overall, but Muppets should be able to claim a victorious start for Disney, which made the film for a modest $45 million. VIDEO: Jason Segel, Amy Adams Talk Muppet Purists, Script Tricks and Being 'Too Ambitious' Disney bought the rights to The Muppets in 2004, and returning the puppets to fame has been a priority for Walt Disney Studios chairman Rich Ross, who wants to create a new generation of fans. The studio's marketing division has enlisted the entire Disney empire in plugging the film, as well as arranging a White House screening of the movie for military families on Tuesday that Segel hosted. Arthur Christmas is projected to open in the mid to high teens for the five days. Sony is hopeful that the 3D film will be a slow burn and have strong legs throughout December because of its Christmas theme, and points out it doesn't have the brand recognition that Muppets enjoys since its an original property. Arthur Christmas, which answers the question of how Santa Claus delivers toys all over the world in one night, has already grossed north of $10 in four markets overseas, the bullk of which was earned in the U.K., home of Aardman. This weekend, it continues to roll out overseas, including in Japan, France, Korea and New Zealand. THR COVER STORY: The Dreams of Martin Scorsese It's unclear where Warner Bros. holdover Happy Feet Two will land over the Thanksgiving holiday after opening to a disappointing $21.2 million last weekend. Hugo is Scorsese's first family film, as well as his first 3D title. Produced by Graham King and distributed by Paramount, Hugo--which cost north of $100 million to produce--is expected to open in the low teens for the five days. Paramount has decided to go with a slow roll out, and will only open Hugo in some 1,200 theaters, compared to more than 3,000 locations for Muppets and Arthur Christmas. That's because Hugo is expected to play a bit older than a regular family film, as well as appeal to a more sophisticated audience. By scaling back Hugo's initial footprint, Paramount hopes to ride the wave of good reviews and awards attention as December gets underway, much as it did last year with True Grit, which was released over Christmas, and became a box office success. Hugo isn't alone in sporting rave reviews--in an unusual Thanksgiving twist, The Muppets and Arthur Christmas also are criticial darlings (Muppetsboasted a 100 percent fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.com as of Thursday afternoon). The specialty box office also sees several high-profile debuts. On Wednesday, the Weinstein Co. opens Michelle Williams starrer My Week with Marilyn in 123 theaters in 12 markets before expanding into an additional 61 markets on Friday, bringing the film's total theater count to 224. The smaller roll out on Wednesday is designed to give the film some breathing room from Fox Searchlight's The Descendants, which expands into a total of 400 theaters on Thanksgiving eve. Also on Wednesday, Sony Pictures Classics launches David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method, starring Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley and Viggo Mortensen, in four theaters in NY and Los Angeles. Friday brings the NY-Los Angeles debut of the critically acclaimed French silent film The Artist, which the Weinstein Co. opens in four theaters in those two cities. Ashley Greene on Breaking Dawn, Stephenie Meyer and Twilight's Accidental Domestic Abuse
Ashley Greene has been playing Alice, an unwaveringly supportive sisterly friend to Kristen Stewart’s Bella, since the beginning of the Twilight series. In Breaking Dawn — Part 1 the psychic Alice serves as wedding planner and all-around helpful vampire girl, but also faces a sudden inability to help Bella by seeing her future, or that of the child she’s carrying. Greene talked about Bella’s well-being, the nature of relationships and the film’s intense birth scene. In Breaking Dawn — Part 1, Alice loses some of her power to help Bella. What was it like to switch gears in the role? It’s just a much darker place than I’ve ever had to go with Alice because she’s losing her powers. I think it’s kind of the least of her problems, I mean, it is frustrating, but she’s more concerned, not that she can’t see the future, just that she can’t see her friend’s future, or her sister’s future. I think she’s having this inner battle and this turmoil because she wants to be there for her sister, now that Bella’s her sister, and wants to support her. She also knows that Bella obviously doesn’t know what’s good for her and she is seeing her sister deteriorate before her eyes, and it definitely was not what I was used to while playing Alice. The relationship between Bella and Alice is catfight-free. Do you think their relationship sends a good message to girls? Of course there is a lot of cattiness and a lot of competition. I feel like girls are so hard on each other. Even in Twilight it was one that I personally really liked, that Alice was so welcoming and really embraced Bella and welcomed her into the family while there were other people still judging and saying, “Who is this girl?” and that was always something I tried to do in high school. I remember people not being so pleasant to me when I was the new girl, and as a result of that I always tried to, you know, give people the benefit and welcome them in. Teenage years are hard enough already, because we don’t really know who we are. Especially if you’re a human surrounded by vampires. That doesn’t help either. Yeah, she’s got it much worse than us. Bella’s childbirth scene was sort of grisly. Do you think younger girls who are into the series will be turned off by the gory parts? I think they all kind of know it’s coming. The book was probably more graphic than what you see onscreen. We tried to kind of tone it down a bit, but of course the biggest goal was to keep everything as close as we could to the story while keeping it a PG-13 rating. But I’m sure there are some girls who are not going to like seeing some of the stuff. One of the threads in Breaking Dawn is the accidental abuse of Bella by Edward after they get married. You’re involved in a campaign against dating abuse, so what do you think of that aspect of the film? I think that it’s a bit different because she’s the one choosing to allow what’s happening to continue happening. I think Edward is the one who’s saying, “We need to make this stop to protect you,” and he really cares about her well-being more than she does, and that’s how it should be. I think it sends a very good message, and if it were the opposite I would completely not condone it because I think it is very important that girls know that they’re important and that they deserve to be treated with respect. Luckily, Edward is in no way, shape or form abusing her. I think he would kill himself before he would let anything happen to her, and she’s the stubborn one going, “I want to keep this child.” And he can’t quite understand because I think until you are in that place you don’t know how it feels to have a child inside you. It was I think a really difficult place for both Edward and Bella to be in. Does Alice eventually become more involved in protecting Bella and Renesmee? She is. Obviously, Rosalie is the most concerned about protecting Renesmee and Jacob, but Alice is always more concerned about Bella than Renesmee. There are already so many other people on top of this child that she pays more attention to Bella the whole time. What was the transition like when Stephenie Meyer came on as a producer? Did you notice a change? No, she’s always been — I said she’s like Google. It’s nice to have her there all the time because she would kind of come in and go out in the past films, and it was nice to have her there as a constant presence because she’s the source on everything, and any questions you had, she’s there. The goal the whole time is to make sure that we stay true to these characters and to the book, and she’s obviously a huge driving force in that as well, so it was comforting to have her around. Stay tuned for more with the Breaking Dawn cast this week and read more on Twilight here. Follow Movieline on Twitter.

Contender: 'The Ides of March'
'The Ides of March' Read the reviewOn paper, "The Ides of March" -- with its intimations of Shakespeare, the sin of pride and John Edwards' ill-fated run for the White House -- would seem like the zeitgeist film of the moment as the nation revs up for another presidential election. The cast alone -- Oscar winners George Clooney, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Marisa Tomei, young hot shots Ryan Gosling and Evan Rachel Wood, as well as sharp, Yale-schooled character actor Paul Giamatti -- lends it a rarified pedigree. And yet the film lacks the critical heat often needed to fan Oscar's flames. It scored a 67 out of 100 on the Metacritic.com site, with Entertainment Weekly ("a grippingly dark and cynical drama") and the NY Observer ("one of the most important films of the year") among its ardent champions. But big-circulation dailies like the Wall Street Journal, the NY Times and the L.A. Times were lukewarm, suggesting a lack of gravity and a certain timidity in the film's depiction of backroom politics.Still, as smart, thought-provoking entertainment, "Ides" has plenty going for it, including contributions from A-list composer Alexandre Desplat; scribe Grant Helsov, who adapted the Beau Willimon play "Farragut North" with Clooney; and ace editor Stephen Mirrione -- all previous Acad favorites. Plus, audiences have embraced it, racking up an impressive $37 million for the indie-scaled drama at the domestic box office."Farragut North" with Clooney; and ace editor Stephen Mirrione -- all previous Acad favorites.Release date: Oct. 7SonyRead the Variety review Contact Steve Chagollan at steve.chagollan@variety.com

Craig Brewer on Remaking Footloose, How It's Like Purple Rain, and Tarzan
Craig Brewer knows that some of you are skeptical about his remake of Footloose, the 1984 Kevin Bacon teen classic about lusty high-schoolers who kick off their Sunday shoes, strain against their small town conservative parents, and “angry dance” their way to prom. But the director, who helped bring rap music to the Academy’s attention in his Oscar-winning Hustle & Flow (and next chained Christina Ricci to a radiator in Black Snake Moan, another tale set in the Southern region where Brewer was raised), comes at it with a fan’s devotion and with an awareness of how religion, morality and politics still overlap in the lives of teenagers today. And, as he watched Kevin Bacon do when he was a kid watching Footloose on the big screen, Brewer admits to indulging in his fair share of “angry dancing.” “I angry dance,” Brewer told Movieline recently in Los Angeles. “I blare The White Stripes — usually it’s off of Icky Thump, or there may be a couple of AC/DC tracks, maybe some off of Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti — and I move around my office and kind of get that bad juju out of me.” Brewer is such a fan of the original, and pays homage so faithfully to it in his new rendition (which stars newcomers Kenny Wormald in the Kevin Bacon role as Ren McCormack and Julianne Hough, inheriting Lori Singer’s role as Ariel, the rebellious preacher’s daughter) that some may wonder why Paramount remade it at all. Read on to hear Brewer’s reasons for updating Footloose, why he’s loved it since age 13, what it has in common with another 1984 rebellious teen pic, Purple Rain, how his upcoming Tarzan project is as much an unexpectedly personal film for him, and the real-life origins of the best line in Hustle & Flow. I’ll start with the big question that I’m sure you’ve been answering left and right, but still: Why remake Footloose? Gee, no one’s asked me that! That’s so refreshing. [Laughs] I bet! You’ve only done about 12 hours of press today. Yeah, but I’ve also been across the country, and everybody else was asking that question — but it’s a valid question, I understand. I’m not judgmental about it. I’m sure there are plenty of people that think this is a money grab on behalf of the studio. I’m sure people are thinking that I’m just selling out or doing a director for hire gig. I can guarantee you that’s actually not the case on either front. There was a moment where Paramount was developing Footloose and it was going to be kind of a more dance celebration — the same team who had done High School Musical was going to do it. Then they decided they didn’t want to do it, and there really was this time when Paramount was going to kill the remake of Footloose. And they called me; I was already down the road with this other movie I thought I was going to do called Mother Trucker, but Adam Goodman, the president of Paramount, kept on me. He was like, “I refuse to accept your pass. You haven’t given me a valid reason why you’re not making this movie.” So you had to be convinced to do this movie? I passed on it twice. What finally made you change your mind? Adam was right. There hadn’t been a movie for teenagers like Footloose in the past couple of decades. I couldn’t think of any. I still challenge people to find one; I’m not saying there isn’t. But it’s not as easy as saying Stomp the Yard or Step Up. What was special in Footloose was not the dancing. Yes, the dancing was fun. But there was something else at work, and I think it had to do with teenagers and parents and educators and administrators and faith and the law, all being these polar opposites of opinion and all being very loud about their opinions — but no one was really listening to each other. And finally, through these camaraderies of Willard and Ren together, and Ariel and Ren getting to know each other, and the conflict between Ren and her father, suddenly everybody saw that they were kind of after the same thing. They all loved their children. They wanted the best for them, they didn’t want any harm to come to them, and it was OK to go to the dance. It was basically a movie that taught me as a teenager that it was OK to stand up for yourself, that it was OK to stand up for yourself in a respectful way. You didn’t have to throw a brick. You didn’t have to shout with a sign outside of City Hall. You could actually put on a tie and write a speech and maybe get further. And I hadn’t seen a movie like that up until I was 13. I was, you know, more of a kid who was into sci-fi movies. But Ren McCormack was this different kind of hero for me, and I can’t think of a recent movie that had those kinds of elements to it, that also had daring elements. People forget how hard Footloose was. I’ve got this fight with Chuck and Ariel, that’s right out of the original. Right. And it goes down in almost exactly the same way. I don’t think I could put that in a teenage movie today if it wasn’t already established in Footloose. Sure. So many of the iconic, memorable scenes from the original Footloose are the kinds of scenes you don’t see in youth-oriented films these days. And that fight between Chuck and Ariel, in particular, is still very hard to watch. It is hard to watch. I think even people who are fans of the original can’t believe we went back there. But there are teenagers out there that are dealing with that in their life, there are teenagers out there that have had friends that are dealing with it. So it’s not something that’s foreign to them, it’s just to some extent not the first thing studios are thinking about in terms of entertaining 13-year-olds. Yet in my day, ’80s movies that usually get maligned — they had some punch to them. Purple Rain, that movie came out the same year Footloose did. I love Purple Rain. It’s one of my favorite movies. I could teach a class on the first eight minutes of Purple Rain. But that movie had, you know, his father trying to kill himself. He hauls off and smacks Apollonia after she gives him the white guitar. It was complicated, it was complex. It was at times hard to watch. A woman gets dumped in the garbage, literally. Right! Right. I mean, it’s strange how hard those movies were in places, yet when we look back on them we call them cheesy. Do you think adults now want to cushion things for younger viewers because they don’t think they can take the kinds of scenes? The idea being what we could handle back then, kids today can’t. It’s so funny, because I remember I saw Footloose in a theater when I was 13. And I remember, when she says, ‘Daddy, I’m not even a virgin,’ it got this groan. Like people couldn’t believe she said that. Well, the same thing happens when I play it in my remake. And as much as people think that teenagers are hardened, and nothing can shock them, it still shocks them.

From Johnny Drama to Gentleman: Kevin Dillon States Being Mr. Comedy Is really a "Victory"
Kevin Dillon It isn't every single day that you simply hear grown males shout "victory" in the center of a home improvement center. Based On How to become a Gentleman's Kevin Dillon, who lately ended an eight-season operate on Entourage, it is simply how people say hello. "Before Entourage, I'd have lots of Marine corps and Platoon fans estimating, 'Did the thing is that mind break?AInch Dillon informs TVGuide.com. "Now, I recieve, 'Hey, Johnny Drama!' Just today, I visited Home Depot and that i had men screaming 'Victory!'" A great deal has transformed for Dillon previously eight years, and we are not only speaking about how exactly he's welcomed in the checkout line. After first attaining prestige for dramatic film roles in Platoon and also the Doorways, Dillon unleashed his funny bone as Johnny "Drama" Chase, the hotheaded, fame-starved older brother of the-list star Vince Chase on HBO's Entourage. The show grew to become well known in showbiz circles and arrived Dillon a catchphrase (thanks to Drama's beloved cult TV series Viking Mission), Diet Pepsi advertisements and three Emmy nominations for the best Supporting Actor inside a Comedy. Take a look at all of the familiar faces coming back to TV this season Now, under per month following the Entourage gang's adventures found a detailed, Dillon has already been back around the small screen starring within the CBS sitcom How to become a Gentleman. "Despite the fact that I did not actually want to work at this time - I needed to consider three several weeks off a minimum of - it simply happened," Dillon states. "Before [Entourage], I could not obtain a sitcom. People wouldn't hire me for comedies. They'd say, 'Oh, he does not do comedy,' and today it is all I actually do.Inch Airing Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c, this contemporary undertake The Odd Couple stars Dillon as Bert Lansing, an military veteran and gym owner/trainer who befriends the etiquette-obsessed Andrew (David Hornsby). (The Oscar to Hornsby's Felix, for a moment.) At first glance, Bert's gruff and aficionado exterior may appear strikingly much like Drama, who was previously so enthusiastic about searching fit he begged his baby bro for calf implants. "I do not think individuals will discover their whereabouts because the same. I seem like we are pursuing a rather different audience," Dillon states. "Bert Lansing quite a bit of fun. He's really a sloppier kind of a man. He's much less of the metrosexual as Johnny Drama, who loved manis and pedis." The cast of Entourage states goodbye - for the time being confident movie may happen Additionally, there are the notable lack of expletives in Bert's everyday vocabulary as compared to the zero broadcasting standards Entourage occured to on the pay cable network. "I decided to miss cursing, however i really don't," Dillon states. "I still seem like I'm able to get my way without real harsh language." The greatest distinction between Bert and Drama might be their number of buddies. Entourage adopted four men who was raised on a single block in Queens, visited exactly the same school coupled with (mostly) exactly the same sensibilities about existence, love and Hollywood. Regarding how to Be considered a Gentleman, Bert is easygoing and rough round the edges, while Andrew is uptight and enthusiastic about doing things the right way. "Since there has not been a strange Couple because the '70s, it has been some time since we have seen anything such as this,Inch Dillon states. "That one it appears to become snappier, faster and merely another vibe, however, you can continue to have the two men as well as their variations." Entourage creator Doug Ellin around the finish, the backlash so when fans can get a film Although Dillon has his hands full with How to become a Gentleman, he has not closed the doorway on Drama and the Entourage crew at this time. After plans for any follow-up film were first introduced this year, he's still hopeful the boys from Queens can get a full day around the giant screen. "I believe will still be going to take place. It is simply type of tricky using the men working, however it appears like several the stars take presctiption board. Doug Ellin really wants to write it. Mark Wahlberg really wants to produce it and so i think it most likely may happen,Inch he states. "I really hope it will.Inch For now, however, Dillon is wishing his latest act catches on in addition to Drama did. "Hopefully, they could be estimating some Bert Lansing lines at some point,Inch he states having a laugh.

Roman's Circuit (El circuito de Roman)
An Escala Humana/Forastero presentation in co-production with Domenica Films/La Ventura/Kine-Imagenes. (International sales: Shoreline Entertainment, Los Angeles.) Produced by Jorge Lopez Vidales, Gregorio Gonzalez, Sebastian Brahm. Co-producer, Pepe Salvia, Laura Mara Tablon. Directed, written by Sebastian Brahm. With: Cristian Carvajal, Paola Giannini, Alexis Moreno, Julia Martinez Rubio, Pablo Krogh, Camilo Carmona, Shlomit Baytelman. The rare feature to treat science seriously and respectfully, Sebastian Brahm's "Roman's Circuit" fascinates with its mix of actual and invented ideas on memory and neuroscience, but falls short as a character study of a once-promising neuropsychologist in career decline. Protag's attempts to publish for the first time in a while intersect with academic warfare, a past romance and a promising student, but the result feels more like an outline than a finished film. Fest and market response will be respectful but muted. Roberto Roman (Cristian Carvajal) made a name for himself in his late 20s with groundbreaking research on memory. Initially unexplained events prompted him to jump off the academic fast track, but he's returned to the psychology department at Chile's State U. in Santiago at the invitation of mendacious department head Osvaldo (Pablo Krogh). Roberto is to have relatively free rein in a lab that's set to be upgraded, but he must work under former peer Jose Luis (Alexis Moreno); he doesn't know it, but despite these less-than-ideal conditions, he's fortunate to have brilliant grad student Javier (Camilo Carmona), Roberto's self-declared "biggest fan," as his research assistant. Roberto is staying with his mom, Carmen (Shlomit Baytelman), away from Argentine-born wife Ines (Argentine thesp Julia Martinez Rubio, "Todos Mienten," "Castro"), who makes a surprise visit. This seems to open up a fissure, however, as Osvaldo begins to make moves on Carmen, much to Ines' amusement, and Roberto crosses paths with Jose Luis' wife, Silvia (Paola Giannini), who was Roberto's g.f. a decade ago. This past relationship and a chain of scenes with Ines initiate a flow of memories for Roberto that begin to alter the film's rhythm and even its style at the midpoint. Brahm and his skilled editor, Andres Tambornino, splice and fracture scenes, occasionally producing surprising moments of recognition. But in this approach, which strongly recalls Alain Resnais' more complex cinematic explorations of memory in "Last Year at Marienbad" and "Muriel," Brahm aims but never realizes those "Eureka!" moments that are part of Javier and Roberto's research, and the layered flashbacks fail to draw the viewer into Roberto's character, perhaps because Carvajal's dull, cryptic performance makes him a near-blank. Only Giannini and Baytelman suggest backstories, their performances themselves an artful form of memory work, and Krogh does a solid variation on his usual role as the heavy. Certain dense dialogue passages regarding brain and memory science, replete with technical jargon, are clearly not meant to be comprehended, even on a second viewing. Much like techno-speak in war, sci-fi and thriller pics, the words lend an air of authenticity more important than viewer understanding. Production package is elegant and sleek, with details that suggest a grimy city surrounding the clean lab environments. The 35mm print viewed in Toronto was subpar; upcoming screenings are promised to be pristine.Camera (color, widescreen, HD-to-35mm), Benjamin Echazarreta; editor, Andres Tambornino; music, Miranda & Tobar; production designer, Paola Saavedra; costume designer, Eliza Hormazadal; sound (Dolby Digital), Pablo Gamberg; sound designer, Adriano Salgado; re-recording mixer, Roberto Migone; associate producers, Luis Brahm, Cristobal Brahm; assistant director, Waldo Salgado; casting, Maria Jose San Martin. Free Males (Ces Hommes libres)
A Pyramide production in colaboration with France 3 Cinema, Solaire Prods. and VMP. (Worldwide sales: Pyramide, Paris.) Produced by Fabienne Vonier. Directed by Ismael Ferroukhi. Script, Ferroukhi, Alan-Michel Blanc.Younes - Tahar Rahim Si Kaddour Ben Ghabrit - Michael Lonsdale Salim - Mahmoud Shalaby Leila - Lubna Azabal Maj. Von Ratibor - Christopher Buchholz Ali - Farid Larbi Francis - Stephane RideauA satisfying war time espionage drama dedicated to little-noted crossing points between Arabic emigres as well as the French Resistance, "Free Males" stars "A Prophet's" Tahar Rahim just like a black marketeer taken up among dangerous intrigue in German-occupied Paris. Loosely inspired by actual occasions, this well-crafted sophomore feature from director-coscenarist Ismael Ferroukhi (concentrating on an even more ambitious scale in comparison to his 2004 debut "Le grand voyage") should garner sufficiently strong enough reviews and audience response further over the fest circuit to draw some offshore rollouts following its Sept. 28 Gallic launch. Among a wave of North African employees who turned up around the colonial keeper's shores before global conflict closed France's immigration-friendly edges, Younges (Rahim) has extended since lost his factory job. Now, in 1942, he subsists selling illegal goods hands-to-hands, wanting to enhance enough funds revisit his native Algeria. Involved with less cash-focused but equally furtive tasks are cousin Ali (Farid Larbi), a union agitator who offers the government physiques a lot more reason to look him lower just like a Resistance leader, his hope (a grimly ironic one, given subsequent occasions) being that efforts to liberate France might encourage that nation to free its own remaining colonies. When gendarmes come banging on Younges' door, Ali beats a hair's-breadth retreat, but Younges is caught red-colored-colored-handed within the own illicit trade. With prison his only alternative, he confirms to "watchInch around the local mosque suspected of hiding Jews and passing them off as Muslims to have the ability to hustle them somewhere safe. Cordialities between likely to rector Si Kaddour Ben Ghabrit (Michael Lonsdale) as well as the Gestapo major (Christopher Bucholz) situated here very carefully veils the kitty-and-mouse game that could turn lethal anytime. Younges' clumsy spying attempts don't escape clever Ghabrit's attention, as well as the youthful guy becomes a useful go-between working both sides until one misstep abruptly terminates his role as Axis mole. (Oddly, he isn't arrested as punishment.) Formerly cynically apolitical, he evolves more dedicated to Ali's cause, attracted further by feelings for Leila (Lubna Azabal), a apparently nondescript mosque worker who's really deeply mixed up in Algerian liberation struggles. Meanwhile, Younges is periodically attracted into the a lot more selfishly ambitious orbit of Salim (Mahmud Shalaby), a velvet-eyed hedonist who's getting steam just like a potentially great singer in the traditional Algerian style (the character's impressive vocals are named by Moroccan singer Pinhas Cohen). Script by Ferroukhi and Alain-Michel Blanc ("The Concert") deftly weaves these strands into a powerful if under pulse-pounding suspenser, its fairly low-key tenor showing helpful when some climactic business such as the final-minute save from the child risks corny contrivance. With full confidence handled pic is well-cast in the future, with Rahim easily holding center just like a careful protag of handful of words. Ever-reliable veteran Lonsdale and Arab-Israel newcomer Shalaby support standouts. Locations (which briefly stretch towards the other agents) limn a brand new Paris of peaceful religious compounds and yesteryear's ethnic slums. Setup is smartly handled on all levels.Camera (color, widescreen), Jerome Almeras editor, Annette Dutertre music, Armand Amar production designer, Thierry Francois set decorator, Catherine Jarrier-Prieur costume designer, Virginie Montel appear (Dolby Digital), Jean-Paul Mugel, Severin Favriau, Stephane Thiebaud assistant director, Stephane Gluck casting, Brigitte Moidon. Ryan Murphy On Glee: Passion Has Returned
Ray Richmond is adding to Deadline’s TV coverage. Coming off a sophomore season of Glee that came gripes from fans along with a debate surrounding his comments about stars Jum Michele, Chris Colfer, and Cory Monteith departing the show, co-creator Ryan Murphy is able to make amends. “This year, the concept is simply to operate the show,” he stated this mid-day following a screening of Glee‘s third season premiere. “Last year would be a new factor for me personally. I’d run tv shows before, but I’d never operate a business before. It had been a strange factor. I many userful stuff here. And That I won't ever again say individuals are departing (the show). I've learned my lesson.” And also, since Michele, Colfer and Monteith’s figures will finish senior high school in the finish of the coming season, the way they be built-into the series’ high-school setting? “There are numerous things they might do,” Murphy told Deadline. “They could become instructors. They might become university students. You will find very organicways you can keep them on the program, and them large and the crowd invested all of them… However the show is definitely likely to be about this choir room.” For carrying out a spinoff, once the producers revisit the concept early in the year, “we would do discussions from it much in a different way than we handled it before,” Murphy stated. But for the time being, the main focus is “on making this the very best year we’ve ever done (on Glee),” he stated. “And actually, we believe that’s precisely what we’re likely to have. Area of the reason for your is we’ve determined the very best method to shoot the show, and a method to get it done more economically for Fox…I have my adoration for (Glee) back…And you can observe the thrill about the set. The stars Personally i think are really restored and excited and therefore are thrilled to become there. It’s fun again…You know, things required a little of the nasty turn, however i happy about this again.” The screening today confirmed that Glee exhibits a restored zest, energy and concentrate within the kickoff hour, replete with rousing amounts, an authentic surprise or two, as well as an indisputable miracle. The growing season opener, which airs Tuesday, also featured Lindsay Pearce –one from the four finalistson the Oxygen reality series The Glee Project– who's playing a significant role on the program throughout Season 3.Pearce turned up as (SPOILER ALERT!) the best choice of the rival singing group to New Directions, and she or he’ll still recur like a enemy to Rachel (Michele) in severalepisodes. Her large first music number is singing Anything That You Can Do from Annie Get A Gun. Murphy told reporters thatit happened to him following the part already have been written that Pearce could be perfect for this but needed to shoot her first episode prior to the Glee Project finale had broadcast. “We stored stalling doing the work therefore it wouldn’t leak,” Murphy stated. He noted the Glee Project‘s two those who win, Damian McGinty and Mike Larsen, will also come in significant story arcs on the program later this fall, with McGinty representing “a foreign currency student shacking track of Brittany (Heater Morris), and she or he obviously thinks him to become a leprechaun with magical forces.” McGinty “isn’t an actress,” Murphy acknowledged, “but he did great. On his first day he gotshoved right into a locker like 25 occasions” but came through rid of it. Larsen can look in “somewhere around Episode 10 or 11,” he added.
